What a weekend!!!!
Spectacular performances for many teams including too many to count personal bests, and the first ever '5' second passes in Canada for a nitrous car. Mike Gndziola did not just barely break into the '5's' either he hit it full on with three passes of 5.92 and 5.93.
Some wild wheelstands, a couple lane swaps and heavy thrashing in the pits excitied the fans all weekend long.
The final round in Pro Mod put the #1 and #2 qualifier against each other, something that does not happen too often. The event winner, Mike Maggio, came out of the box on fire, ripping off a 5.72/256, with a totally new untested BAE hemi (Brad 10x heads).
He improved that to a controversial 5.67 (it appeared his engine bag may have been a little low), and then scratched his way through elimination's will multiple issues on almost every run. In the end, he had enough reserve HP to get the job done and defeat Washington driver Garrett Richards. Richards took a couple runs to sort out his Walt Austin powered Ford, but by the second qualifier he had a new CB (career best), a great 5.91. That run was not without problems though, as his valve covers did not seal properly and the run did put fluid on the track. His third run was even quicker, as he went 5.89,
but it too dropped oil on the surface and the track staff worked their butts off to clean up so the fourth session could be run. They improved In eliminations to a 5.86 and then got a couple breaks earning a single in round three and a bye in the semi finals to earn the right to take on Maggio. In that final, they were on a great run two 200 feet and were neck and neck with the California hitter. But the car shook at the top of 1st gear and moved toward the guard rail forcing Richards to ease off the gas pedal. Maggio ran his third 5.70 of the weekend, a 5.78 /254, to earn the victory. The full Pro Mod results are posted on the results page.
Outlaw 10.5 had the usual results throughout eliminations. Qualifying went to form at the top with Ken Sihota going to the top with a 6.38/215 best.
The other local hitter Steve Nicholson thrashed all week, trying to get his car back together after his early summer impact with the wall at Pacific. He and Rob Guazzaroni worked tirelessly for the last month getting his 63 Corvette back to the track. They finally made it Saturday afternoon and got in a small test hit. The car responded well, but in returning to the pits they found some internal damage and could not continue. Eliminations is where things went strange and sour for a few.
The Van Vliet team from Port Alberni had turbo damage and could not make the call, handing Mike Walterson the bye. Sihota had the single when Nicholson could not make round one. Dean Branham debuting his new Hemi powered twin Turbo took out Roy Moznik. It was Branham's first actual full pass on the car and he went 6.86/203. Roy Moznik was finally getting the El Camino a bit more consistent and most thought he would get through, but his 7.19 fell a few tenths short. Paja Agatonovic easily dispatched Mike Hawkins. Mike came into the class without the HP needed, but knowing the class had to be filled. Kudos to Mike and Mandi. The Final round that had Paja Agatonovic and Mike Walterson battle it out had strange beginning for both drivers to get there, but it was the quicker Agatonovic who prevailed.
Full results will be posted here.
was a in essence a four car horse race with the top four over a half
second ahead of the bottom half of the field. But this class has the
potential, as a number of others are rumored to be building new rides
and a couple in the bottom half are continually quicker and quicker.
Scott Schulhauser, Neil Richards, Steve Skokins and Alex DeWolf all
made great runs in qualifying and the semi finals saw awesome side
by side battles. In the end it was the two Alberta drivers, Schulhauser
and Richards battling.
The full report on the results page.
After struggling to get cars in the class last year they had 8 competitors for this year's event. The Johnson brothers from Bellingham have done much of the leg work in the class but the class has had difficulty getting cars. For this race 5 of the 8 cars did get into the eight second zone, and two of them, Jim Johnson and Harry Lockerby were in the 8.5 and low 8.6 range. Lockerby could not make the call in the semis so it was the brothers Johnson fought it out in the final round.
Full results will be posted on the results page.
For the second year in a row, it was the largest class with close to 60 competitors this year. It has shown its popularity for many bracket racers trying out the pro '4' tree. The strategy in racing the class varied greatly, with deep staging, shallow staging (for a few), real late lights and exciting top end racing. By the top the field was down to the 1/4 finals, four regular Summit Et competitors faced off, and lights for a couple were not great. But in the final both drivers (Kash Sandhu and Glen Fillingham) had solid lights and Sandhu got his biggest win in his racing career.
14 cars ran on Saturday and 10 on Sunday, far from what we were hoping and expecting but the racing was stellar.
Darren Williams defeated James Rutherford in Race one and Graham Foster defeated John Tiegen in Race two. Both were battles of out of town drivers. Saturday's saw two Alberta drivers and Sunday's was two Fort St John drivers. Foster the Sunday winner was the 2013 IHRA world champion and Tiegen is representing Division 6 in the IHRA finals this year in Memphis.
The elimination's sheet will be posted soon.
Canada West Doorslammers
The local door-car class had 23 cars make the 8.70 minimum and Last years champion Mike Bedsworth looked to be on his way to the final round two years in a row. He did not make it though, as Paul Stretch defeated him in the semis. Bedsworth was perfect on his dial but was .021 back on the tree. Paul Stretch his opponent in the semis was only .003 off his dial. The final round saw Terry Langdon Davis (who had the semi final bye) get the win on a double breakout final.
results and photos over the next couple days.

Track drying is underway at Mission Raceway. We hope that in two hours we will be racing!!!
We are in a holding pattern today as persistent showers are really putting a crimp into our day. The forecast is for better weather later today so we will keep out figures crossed.
September 18, 2014,
Doorwarz II welcomes Neil Mullen Motorsports as an event sponsor.
Unfortunately, Rain on Thursday did not allow any testing to happen.
September 17, 2014
Wednesday testing with Mike and Joe getting as much data as possible as they face off on Saturday in the final round from the Rocky Mountain Shoot-out that was washed out (while waiting for Joe and his team to make and engine swap). Both cars ran 6.00 up at Castrol, so their final round will be epic.
Wednesday test is complete. Four cars made a couple hits each. Joe Delehay, Mike 'Gonzi' Gondziola, Keith Korecki and Steve Horne. Gonzi had a couple sub 1. 60's fts. including a .986 best. More info and a couple photos are at www.speedzonemagazine.com
It was real nice to see both Keith Korecki (above) and Steve Horne (below) out for the first time this year.
A dozen or so Pro Mods were on the grounds when we left Wednesday evening. A few of the hitters include the West Coasts baddest car, Mike Mggio and NHRA regular Craig Cawte with his Al Billes tuned Camaro. Shane Molinari will make his competitive debut this weekend in the RH 70.5 Camaro. Glen Kerunsky is here as is fellow Albertans Paul Glandon and Tom Meheden.
We welcome RBS Superchargers on board as an event sponsor. They will sponsor $250.00 for low qualifier in Pro Mod and also sponsor the quickest RT in Pro Mod.
Joe Mayzes and Mayzes Excavating is back as well with 500.00 in bonus money.
$250.00 will go to the first turbo pro mod to run a '5' (It will be the first in Canada). And the other $250.00 for the Low et of the weekend.
So we have a bonus for the first '5' in nitrous powered pro mods run thanks to Tim Hortons Mission and the 1st turbo (Mayzes Excavating) powered '5', they are the two big barriers that have not been broken in Canada yet.

September 8, 2014
We are just 10 days away from the second annual Doorwarz.
---A few notices for all competitors---
The Race schedule is going to be posted Tuesday.
All Open Comp competitors. There will be a section put aside (in the second pit area) for all OC teams with bigger rigs and trailers. They will have a designated area, but individual named spots won't be utilized for the class in 2014 (those who have emailed to confirm their entry will get priority parking including the bigger rigs). The fence line in both the main pit and Pit #2 will be used for open trailers in Open Comp and the bracket classes (this is due to last year's parking issues for those classes). Super Shifter will have their usual pit area on the South section of Pit #2 (next to the berm). If you are parking with a group of racers in Open Comp, we welcome that, but please try and come at the same time. The classes with individual named spots include Pro Mod, Outlaw 10.5, Outlaw 275, Top Sportsman, Hot Street and Doorslammers.
The main pit area will include Pro Mod, Outlaw 10.5, Outlaw 275 and Top Sportsman. The second pit section will include Doorslammer Open Comp and Super Shifter. The Jr Dragster will be pitted together in the section just West of Pit #2 (where many park now). The Bracket classes will also park in that area. Teams that are doubling up classes (Open Comp and a Bracket) will park in Pit #2 and the area West of Pit #2. The six or seven spots in the area West of the fence will be used for NW Outlaws. We will have a map posted in the next couple days outlining the parking assignments. Please try and understand the reasons for having designated areas, and we would appreciated your full co-operation.
Updated entry fees for competition and testing are now posted.
A note to Top Sportsman. The plan is to have a double header. That is based on 16 cars minimum which is better that the original postings a few months ago which was 20 cars. If 13-15 show up the purse will be prorated to $2,200.00 to win and 800.00 for runner/up, the same for the other rounds. In 12 or less show up it will be a single event (200.00 entry so 100.00 or your original entry fee will be reimbursed to you). The payout will be $3500.00 to win for the single race.
A Note to Outlaw 10.5
As it stands right now there are only 8 cars confirmed. That being said the purse will be as follows:
4,000.00 to win, $1,500.00 r/u, $500.00 semi finals, $250.00 1/4 finals, 150.00 1/8th. $6,000.00 total.
This is the purse if there are 10-12 cars. If eight or nine cars then the purse is :
$3,000 to win, $1,000.00 r/u $500.00 semi finals.
If under eight we reserve the right to cancel the class. Cars can run in another class.
This purse is $5,000.00 more than the entry fee covers. We have a couple sponsors including Paja Trucking and Diversified Mtals work and are confirming a couple more in the next couple days.
Canada West Doorslammers
The Doorslammers are presented by Rutland Auto Repair and RH Race Cars.
Outlaw Pro Mod
An updated entry list for Pro Mod includes Shane Molinari who did complete his license upgrading this past weekend at Mission's LODRS event. He went a best of 6.19/241. That team: Molinari / RH Race Cars / JBS Canada is very exciting after making over a dozen laps on the weekend. The car count is in the 30-34 range for Pro Mod.
Steve Horne has also decided to play this year. His earlier commitments have changed and he is excitied to get back in the car.
Here is the new shirt design for this year's event. It includes Joe Delehay as the main car on the front. Hoodies (Black and Ash) and T-shirts (Black and White) are available right up to 4x.

What a long wait......
The first race of the year at Mission Raceway was last weekend (Langley Loafers) and it was a huge success. An all Concrete surface produced stellar number of many AA/Supercharged cars and the comments were along the lines of, "an awesome smooth surface from the starting line right to the finish line. Car can put the power down right from the start. With the cool conditions in the fall, we expect records to be broken.
This all bodes well for DOORWARZ II in six weeks time. We will be making the changes to the entry lists over the next few days, as a number of team have made changes since year two was announced and then re schedule for the stellar air in September.
The delay has allowed a few teams that would not have been ready for the original July date to now be out in force come September 18-21. In Pro Mod, a new team with driver Shane Molinari and a twin turbo Camaro will debut. Gary Urlacher had an unfortunate crash back in April but his 63 Corvette is almost ready to go with the new body and chassis work. We keep hearing about Rick Di Stefano and his new twin Turbo'd Hemi Camaro. Apparently it is ready to go, but will he debut it in six weeks? Work is the concrete contrators priority this year, but come six weeks time, we will know. Garry Weslosky debuted his new 69 Camaro a month ago at Edmonton and went to the final round. His nitrous powered Camaro is just waiting to eat up the new surface here at Mission.
The Edmonton winner (Joe Delehay) has a new monster blower on his Camaro, and Delehay is just waiting to see how quick he can go. Paul Glandon's new Twin Turbo'd 69 Camaro was finished at the same time and debuted at Edmonton and he just finished a private test and the car showed huge promise as Paul is really excited about heading down to Mission to try out the all concrete track.
Simon Kingsley has a screw blower atop his AJ 481-x wedge and Wade Sjostrom added a screw as well. Doorwarz will be Kinglsey's season debut as well. Craig Cawte confirmed his entry and it is one of the quickest roots blown Camaro's anywhere. In legal NHRA trim the car has gone low 5.90's at 248 mph. Keith Korecki has reworked his Nitrous powered Shelby Mustang with more power and a new body configuration. Mission will be his first outing as well. A number of Nitrous cars went on a diet over the last year and have added more power including Yvonne Lucas and Ross Hogenson.
The battle for the first "five" by a nitrous car in Canada is heating up with Hogenson laying down a career best 6.06/237 blast in 3800 feet of air. How will 0 feet of air help his car. Mike Gondziola does not want to be 'second' to the 'fives' so he will be out in force with his lighter Musi powered Camaro. One of the most anticipated cars is the return of the 'Cranberry Connection' Thunderbird. This car was resurrected by Glen's daughters and it will have an all new Ford powerpalnt with a PSI screw blower on top. Man talk about exciting!

That is just a handful of the Pro Mod cars that are new or modifiied for 2014 and year II.
Big changes have not been reserved for only Pro Mod though. The "Dale Moznik" Outlaw 10.5 class will be totally different in 2014. Locally, Steve Nicholson is thrashing big time to have his car ready after his unfortunate meeting with Pacific Raceway barrier in the spring. His parts and pieces are all at the chassis shop, so it is just a matter of having enough time to 'get er done'. Dean Branham had delays in getting his new BAE hemi with twins on top ready to go, but Mission's surface better be prepared for his assault. Paja Agatonovic will make his Canadian debut in September. His Camaro with 900+ cubes is state of the art.
Rumors of Dave Bowman running at Mission are out there, will the re-scheduled date allow him to head North. Darryl Stone will compete this year after taking off the 2013 season. His Turbocharge Canso has been well into the fives already. His Mustang is one of the baddest from the East Coast. The biggest news locally though is the return of the familiar 'Blue El Camino.
Dale Moznik is unfortunately not with us anymore, but brother Roy and nephew Vince decided the car should be part of the 10.5 scene in the NW. The success of the car is well known and it is going to be awesome to have it as part of the show. Greg Hindman is trying to get his GXP ready for the fall as well and if there are enough hours in the day then he will be out is force. Eric 'Wildman' Peterson has hinted at big changes for Doorwarz. Will his 51 Chevy be ready in time.
Brent Van Vliet had made a couple dozen runs on his new 10.5 Camaro and they are continually adding more power to it. We should see six second time slips in two weeks in that car, and then they will be ready for September as well.
Outlaw 275 and Open Comp will also had different looks to them with new cars and updated ones as well.
Kepp checking back as we countdown to September 18th and the Thursday test session.

2014 Event Notice.....
This years race has been unfortunately postponed until September 19-21 due to ongoing track delays on the new racing surface. Mission Raceway staff apologize for the delays. The new date is a good one in that the air that time of year is stellar and could make for some of the quickest and fastest racing ever on the West Coast.
May 10, 2014
We are proud to announce we are renaming the Outlaw 10.5 class to "Dale Moznik" Outlaw 10.5. Dale was exactly what the 10.5 class is all about, running hard with not your everyday race car and being bad ass. He remains the only two time winner of the SCSN Outlaw 10.5 class. His name and legacy will go on here as Roy and the rest of his family will run Dale's Blue El Camino in tribute. Very Cool!!
The Outlaw 10.5 page has been updated.
The Top Sportsman page is updated. Close to 20 entries for Top Sportsman.
